Liliana Belloso, a 33-year-old farmer and agricultural promoter at the Tierra Saludable Ameyalli (TSA) training center in Ahuachapán, El Salvador, exemplifies the dedication and resilience required to nurture both her family and her community. Balancing the roles of mother, farmer, and community leader, Liliana is driven by a passion for learning and a desire to share her knowledge with others.
A Day in the Life of Liliana
Every day, Liliana's routine begins before the sun rises. By 6 AM, she’s already preparing her children for school, handling household chores, and gearing up for a day of agricultural practices. Whether attending training sessions at TSA or working on her own plot, Liliana’s days are a blend of family and farming responsibilities.
The Journey to Agricultural Promotion
Liliana’s foray into the world of sustainable agriculture began with her father’s involvement in the RAÍCES EL SALVADOR program. Initially unaware of the TSA Training Center’s existence, she became intrigued by the sustainable farming techniques her father learned. This curiosity blossomed into a deep interest, propelling her to join TSA as an agricultural promoter in 2021.
In this role, Liliana has not only expanded her knowledge but also discovered her potential as a leader. She is now equipped to address community challenges with innovative and sustainable solutions, aiming to improve the resilience and productivity of local farmers.
Empowering Farmers Through Field Schools
At TSA, Liliana participates in Field Schools (ECAS), which provide hands-on training in sustainable agricultural practices. The knowledge she gains here is invaluable, and she actively shares it with the farmers she supports. By teaching them how to improve soil health, enhance production quality, and reduce costs, Liliana plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable farming within her community.
Balancing Family Life and Farming
Liliana’s commitment to her family is as steadfast as her dedication to her farming community. She dreams of a future where her children have access to clean water, nutritious food, and a thriving natural environment. This vision fuels her daily efforts in regenerative agriculture, a practice she believes is essential for ensuring a sustainable future for her children and community.
Her work is more than just a job; it’s a mission to instill the values of environmental stewardship and sustainable living in her children. Liliana’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that dedicated individuals can have on their communities and the environment.
