MECHANIZED
CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE
RAÍCES leads the way in conservation agriculture innovation by adapting mechanized agricultural equipment for crop preparation and planting with no till equipment. No till agriculture aims to desturb as little as possible the soil and the terrain during cultivation, thereby preserving the natural soil structure. Our machinery includes a wide range of equipment designed for various agricultural tasks, focusing on tractor-towed implements that shred organic matter, incorporate it into the soil, and allow direct seeding through pressure without soil disturbance.
In our approach, the use of mechanized implements in agriculture offers an efficient alternative for small, medium, and large producers to effectively manage crop residues, plant more efficiently, fertilize sustainably, and reduce production costs, all while respecting the environment.
Thanks to a strategic alliance with Tierra Saludable Ameyalli (TSA), RAÍCES has successfully introduced innovative equipment adapted to conservation agriculture, trained tractor operators, and prepared and planted over 100 hectares of maize in 2023. Mechanized conservation agriculture is a unique service currently implemented exclusively by TSA in El Salvador.
LOCAL
PARTNER
TSA is a training center dedicated to promoting conservation agriculture practices. Its mission is based on collaboration with a network of promoters committed to the restoration of agricultural landscapes.
Since 2019, TSA has progressively expanded and diversified its services, to include on-farm technical assistance in multiple crops, outreach through farmer field schools, training, and soil preparation services with mechanized conservation agriculture equipment.
Assuming a leadership role in promoting sustainable agriculture in northern Ahuachapán, and in collaboration with RAÍCES, municipal governments, CENTA field stations, the National University of Agriculture, and FAO, TSA has become the go-to partner for agricultural development programs, including USAID's Office of Humanitarian Assistance and FAO's RECLIMA program.
TOOLS FOR MECHANIZED AGRICULTURE
COVER CROP ROLLERS
Flatten the crop residues or wild plants, leaving them in long or even whole pieces on the ground, which allows for slow decomposition.
RESIDUE INCORPORATORS
Cut the weeds or residues of previous crops into pieces. This allows microorganisms to decompose organic material faster.
NO-TILL SEEDER
Plant and fertilize at the same time, leaving a good distribution of the seed and fertilizer, making the work more efficient for the farmer.
