Colibri Schoolarship, Yesenia

Updated: Nov 4, 2024

At 23, Yesenia has managed to overcome several personal and academic challenges thanks to a scholarship granted by the Colibrí Program through Cáritas. This support not only allowed her to continue her studies during the pandemic but also provided her with the necessary tools to adapt to the new reality of virtual education, such as a laptop and internet access, which were essential during those difficult times.

Yesenia learned about the program through her sister, who had also been a beneficiary of Cáritas. In 2020, just as in-person classes were suspended, she received the life-changing call that she had been selected for the scholarship. With this support, she was able to maintain her academic performance and make the most of her university education, which has allowed her to excel in her career.

From a young age, Yesenia always showed a great interest in English, which led her to pursue a degree focused on teaching the language. Throughout her studies, she also discovered a passion for teaching—a vocation she never imagined having. Teaching has not only become a skill for her but also a source of personal motivation. The scholarship allowed her to realize her ability to inspire others and how much she enjoys helping others learn.

Currently in her final academic cycle, Yesenia is applying her knowledge through an internship at the Santa Ana Theater, where she works with foreigners and practices English. This experience has allowed her to grow professionally and reaffirm her desire to continue advancing.

One of the most special moments in her experience with the program was a youth retreat in 2021. This event not only helped her disconnect from academic stress but also allowed her to meet other scholarship recipients and develop personal skills, demonstrating that the Colibrí Program cares about the overall well-being of its beneficiaries.

Yesenia has high expectations for the future: she wants to continue learning and aspires to further specialize in teaching English. The scholarship has not only been an academic opportunity but also a true catalyst for her personal and professional growth.
